If I can persuade you to read a book by snippets alone, let it be these two. Y’all, I was audio booking this and when I heard it, I ran to the computer to write down these words so I could share them with you all! They were so poetic in my ears. 

So if you haven’t gathered, His in the Dark is a Hades and Persephone retelling. This one caught my attention for the fact of how Hades had someone lady-nap Persephone in the night. It’s also like what Persephone was trying to do during the time of her lady-napping. That whole night was such a fun way to start this story. Persephone has been struggling with her powers growing weak and was afraid that soon she would be a mortal. She wanted to understand what was going on but at the same time was a little weary to ask for help from her parents. So she felt like she would handle it on her own. 

Little did she know that Hades had been told long ago that Persephone would be his wife. She would come to the underworld and become the queen. He has been waiting but decided he couldn’t wait any longer and risked starting a war with Zeus to get his lady. 

Here’s the cool part. Hades actually wanted to help Persephone get her powers back. He told her this much as well. You see he knew how to do that but he didn’t tell her how she would get her powers back. Instead he sent a servant that would answer Persephone’s questions and in time Persephone would think the servant gave her her powers back. But in reality it wasn’t the servant at all. Essentially the servant just had knowledge. Persephone needed to see what information to keep and apply to herself and what to just keep in mind. 

Hades is actually doing everything in his power to help his soon to be wife gain all that she had hopes for but in the underworld. Now how will Persephone take that? Will she actually gain her powers back? 

Y’all I absolutely adore this audio. I love a good Hades and Persephone retelling and this one did not disappoint. This is the first book in a duet. So I was semi left on a cliff hanger but it isn’t a bad one of like feeling like I am in turmoil. Now let me also say that the second book is out so I can jump into that soon!! But I have a few more books to read before I get to do that! 

If you are looking for delicious retellings, I cannot recommend Willow Winters enough. She continues to have me hooked on all of them. Shoot she has a Beauty and the Beast retelling and I may actually read this one. I refuse to pick up any Beauty and the Beast retellings because I don’t want anyone to ruin that one for me. That is my favorite childhood movie. But Willow has me questioning that rule!! That takes a lot of skill. 

Over all, I highly recommend this one. It is a tad bit gory so check the trigger warnings but this was a good read in my eyes!!!
