“The only waterfall I’m interested in is the one I’ll be drinking from between your thighs.” The quote that had me pausing mid-step as I was listening to the audiobook. What a beautiful way to tell her to shut up and take what you’re about to be given. A nice, I don’t care what view you are seeing, I’m seeing a completely different one. What sweet poetry.
Phantom, I do not know why but the entire listen, I thought there was going to be a horrible plot twist and no HEA. I guess its been that long since I listened to Haunting Adeline, so I forgot what exactly happened with her grandma. So paint me surprised when I read this and got very nervous that I was 15 minutes from the end and nothing bad happened. Then we get to the complete end and I’m pleasantly surprised but confused. Either way, I can confirm this is a HEA ending and you can go into the listen without the nerves I gave myself.
Let’s get into this one. If you read Haunting Adeline then you know Adeline found her grandmothers diary and has been reading it in her free time. So we actually get to see when her grandmother wrote in the diary and her emotions through it. I felt like in Haunting, we saw that the grandmother was more fearful of the entire stalker situation but in Phantom, we re seeing a different side. It turns out that, yes grandma was scared at first, but that was for a short bit. She actually decided to stand up to him and show she wasn’t fearful. She knew that the reason this man was outside her house was probably because of her husbands wrong doings but she didn’t know he stayed because of her. You see her husband was in debt to the mafia. He didn’t care, he kept betting and kept putting their life in jeopardy.
Phantom was sent to their house to take care of things and thats when he noticed the FMC. (Don’t hate me but I genuinely am forgetting her name right now) He was instantly smitten by her looks and decided he needed to go back all the time to see her. Slowly he started getting more and more “brave” with his moves and he started actually visiting her in the house. The FMC ended up falling for him as well but in the time of day that this book took place, they could not get a divorce. She knew it wasn’t practical. So a secret affair was what they were able to conjure. Not their choice but at the same time, they couldn’t cut out the FMC’s husband.
So they decide to continue their love in secret. But will it stay quiet? Will this love triangle turn into a blood bath? What will end up happening to Phantom? This is where I leave you hanging.
Author H.D. Carlton finally gave us the details we needed about grandma. Boy is grandma savage!!! That woman found what she wanted and let that man ravage her in all his desired ways. Dang grandma!!! Go you!! If you have read anything from Carlton, then I will say this was one of her lighter books. She definitely made Haunting/ Hunting darker than this book. Yet this was a nice change of pace to the “series.” I’m not fully sure this is considered a series but it’s connected. I absolutely adored hearing grandmas side of the story and how she was doing what made her happy!
