Book 2. Book 2. Book 2. Oh I was rooting for you! Thank you for not disappointing! We saw this couple a little in Never Till Now but we now get to see the full dynamic. Now Lauren from book 1 did see the writing on the walls and I was with her on the line of thinking. So she was on the right track but now we are seeing just how far the “friendship” runs. I absolutely loved seeing how this story ended. Tears may have tried to fall but it was perfect.
Kelsie and Max have been best friends since they were kids. Max was basically the adopted child to her family. His family fell apart and Kelsies brother Adam was Max’s best friend. That is until Kelsie and Max grew closer. It was basically a nice close trio of friends.
Kelsie is currently going through a divorce where the ex is just trash. The man literally just used her family name to make his goals of business. He wanted to make a lot of money and knew if he had the backing of her last name, that he would be able to get where he wanted. So he used her to get to that point. Then when he reached his goal, he let her know he didn’t love her and signed over his paternity rights to Kelsie. What a piece of crap. But that’s where best friend Max comes into play. He knows its been a bit of a crazy time for her so he steps in as much as he can to help her along her way in the single parent/business woman lifestyle.
Max actually works at his fathers gym as a personal trainer. He too has a busy life but really wants to be there for Kelsie and her kids. He actually has a really good friendship with the kids on his own. One day he needs to leave his apartment for a few weeks due to damage and he ends up crashing at Kelsies house during these weeks.
What could one night of giving in do to a friendship? Well I mean maybe we also try one more time to make sure this was as good as it seemed…. You see where I am going. Well her divorce is finalized and she’s enjoying her time with Max. But she finally has to say its time to stop with the good times because she started to fall for him.
There is a ton of back and forth moments between these two and that is where the tears kinda pricked for myself. I loved seeing that they were trying their hardest to make sure they kept their friendship but at the same time they tried to understand their feelings. The downside is there were a lot of speed bumps. Now I sadly can’t say anything more than this because there are so many points that you gotta wait to read on your own and not hear it from me.
Author Jenna Lockwood… I hate to say this but I think this book called to me more than Never Till Now. I just loved the dynamic between these two and how it felt like a solid relationship. I had to remind myself that I was reading a book and not living as their best friend watching this. Don’t get me wrong, Never Till Now was amazing as well, but this one just kinda edged it out and I think the best friends to lovers trope just kinda stole the show!
There is one more book left in this series and I gotta say, I can’t wait to see where this one leads. The last sibling in this trio is about to find his love story. I am ready to read Fate In Fiction.
