I didn’t know it was possible to hate a character more than what I felt at the end of His Red Carnation but some how Cassandra Vega made it possible. I literally ended that book heated and hoping Ana got her dream man. Then some how the ex still pops up and tries to ruin everything. If you could smack a fictional character, I would like to smack Jake. Thank you very much!
The other thing that a lot of people will see while reading this book is that Charlie seems to be very controlling. So let me buffer what I am about too say, abusive relationships are not ok. A relationship where one party cannot get out if they want to get out of the relationship, is not ok. So I am not speaking about the obviously wrong types of relationships. I am though talking about an obsessive MMC. Unless you have lived with an obsessive person, you will probably be alarmed with this type of relation. Now I will divulge that I personally live in an obsessive relationship and honestly this depicted it a little stronger than I have come to know but it all made sense.
Charlie was absolutely obsessed with Ana and Ana was absolutely obsessed with Charlie. This was downright refreshing to see such instant love that was all consuming. I will say, Charlie buddy, we gotta work on letting the lady work! She’s gotta work too. We can’t make her completely change. She will always be with you. Ana just needs a moment to do what makes her happy.
In this book we find how Charlie wants nothing but the best for Ana, even if that means harming others. She takes control and informs him that that is not allowed. He will need to work on being ok with people being in the world that has caused her harm. It sadly is just a thing. He absolutely loves being dominated so this control from Ana is not a bad thing. He absolutely loves every minute of it even if that means he doesn’t get to do as he wishes.
Well sadly in the end we realize that Charlie was actually onto something and he noticed things that not all of us noticed before. He caught wind of life possibly going south and that comes with the territory of being obsessive. Good on him and good on him for knowing when he needed to call in for help. I will leave it at this because we can’t give away the details. You’re just going to need to read to find out what happens.
Author Cassandra Vega really came in clutch with the type of love Anna deserved. I was screaming for her at the end of the last book and hoping she would be able to get a love that would actually show her she meant everything. Oh did she find that with Charlie. I truly didn’t want to finish this book. I was so excited to watch how life ended up for Ana and I was thankful to see it was with Charlie. This is one of those books where I am like I know its a book but I wish them nothing but the best in life. I really hope they live a wonderful fictional life!
This was definitely a book to add to your TBR. If you haven’t already read His Red Carnation then I recommend starting with that and then going to this book. You can get by with just reading this one first but it will make it a little more understandable if you read HRC first. You’ll understand the character dynamic more and you’ll also develop the hatred towards Jake. You need to develop that feeling though. It really helps with reading this book. Haha.
