Check them trigger warnings first. This is definitely not the darkest writing I have read but I can see a few topics discussed that may not be everyones cup of tea.
Can we discuss how S. Von managed to write a book that had us loving the MMC yet hating him at the same time. Maybe that was just me but the entire time I had mixed feelings about him. That’s pretty impressive in my book. Now the FMC, I wish she was a bit more of a fighter but I feel like this is a “hold my beer” situation. I feel like S. Von has some plans for the next book and I just need to sit back and wait!!!
We start this book off with the FMC (we gonna use FMC and MMC because there is a few names for each character. This will be easier to differentiate.) being in a marriage that honestly sounds loveless. It sounds like her husband isn’t to excited to be in this marriage and only calls on her to have sex when he feels like it. If she tries to initiate, he usually shuts her down. He also sounds spiteful. The FMC had a birthday party planned for herself, by her sister and friend, and her husband decided that they were going to go on a trip that same day before the party. So he highjacked something she was really excited for and made her go on a trip that he wasn’t even excited to go on. So she tries to make the most of it and asked if her husband wants to do some exploring while on the trip. The dude is such a rude person that he says no and basically says she can do whatever she wants. But the moment she does that, he starts getting mad and rude to her. How dare she go have fun after he told her to go have fun without him…… Idiot.
Sadly, this trip did not end well as the FMC and her travel companions (two other ladies) end up being trafficked by the cartel. They are drugged and taken to be sold at an auction. Except for the FMC, she was noticed by the MMC. The MMC suggested to his boss that his boss should keep the FMC and the boss agrees. The MMC and FMC end up growing feelings for each other but at the same time the FMC needs to start trusting the MMC. At a party the FMC is approached by a lady that wanted to help her escape. She instantly took her up on the offer. This wouldn’t happen for a while but she needed to try. In the FMC’s eyes, she wasn’t going to go back to her crappy marriage. She was planning to go back to her sister and kids though. Those were her people!
This is the point where we don’t speak much more. We can’t fully spoil the plot! You are going to want to read it.
This is the first time I have read anything from author S. Von and I don’t think it will be the last time. I was absolutely honored to have her reach out and suggest her book. It turned out to be an amazing read. This one definitely has some topics that may not be everyones favorite to read but honestly I feel like it was nicely written. This book kinda leaves off on a cliffhanger but at the same time doesn’t. It’s the cliffhanger thats not like “oh my gosh, did the character die?!?!?!” It is more the cliffhanger of “ooooo where do we go from here?” The next book doesn’t come out until April 7th, so we will have to sit back and relax.
I truly enjoyed the concept of this book and how the entire plot laid out. It didn’t repeat itself except the mental focus the FMC had for herself. To which is the best thing to keep your whits about you. Otherwise this book flowed beautifully, it has a delicious coupling, the side characters were nicely written, and in general if just felt like a fast paced book. I felt like time moved smoothly in this book but also a substantial amount of time did pass in this timeline. It was at least a few months of time. If not longer. If the next book is anything like this one, then I think we will be in for a wonderful ride to see what happens next for the FMC.
