Let me first start off with saying I have been looking forward to this book for so long. I am absolutely in love with this series and since we touched down in Carnage, I have been antsy for the next book. I’m loving everything about the Spade boys. Haidyn is exactly what I thought he was going to be. The moment we got a glimpse of him in the previous book, I knew instantly that I was going to love the character he was written to be. Then Charolette comes in and I instantly developed a woman crush. I loved the strength and power she exuded throughout the entire book. 

My only issue is the amount of smut. Yes, I know we are spicy readers but I am the person that would also like some plot with the smut. To which, yes I can handle a lot of smut but I still felt like there should have been a little less. You couldn’t get past 5-10 minutes with out another smutty moment. That would be my only complaint on this book. I just felt like this plot was set up that so much more could have happened but didn’t because of the smut levels. We could have had so much more destruction and darkness!!! But honestly thats just me, y’all don’t have to agree with me at all! 

Haidyn, can we talk about the man though. He is the friend that does everything for everyone else. He is going to take all of the punishments for the group. He will put himself in front of the bullet for his friends. He will do everything in his power to show love to them in the way that works best for him. Yet, somehow, even though all of his friends know this, they still act like they can’t trust him. That floored me. How do they not trust him or how do they quickly become angry with him when he has done nothing but protect. I get it that maybe he does it in ways that not everyone would agree with but at the same time, he is literally granting the wishes of whomever he is helping. Yet everyone still gets pissed at him. I was downright livid a majority of the time for him. 

Charolette, she has a different name too but we will just stick with Charolette so we don’t confuse each other. Any way, she has the goal to become a lady. She is working to become a lady but the beautiful thing, she picks Haidyn over and over again. There have been a few tests where she needs to pick herself or Haidyn and still she some how still picks him first. She falls hard for this man but continues to reach her goals until finally it all comes to head. Thats the night she says she will do whatever the higher ups say but she will not give Haidyn to the lords. She is saving him. From that point on, I can not speak on what happens. This is where it all gets intense and you will be holding your breath to see what happens next. 

I feel like Author Shantel Tessier really just wanted to pull our heart strings through this entire book but really laid it on thick at the end of the book. I’ll spoil it and say there is one part where Haidyn leaves a video for Charolette and I started to tear up. It was a good-bye. Y’all this woman really said, let me make you fall in love with Haidyn and then try to tear you apart too. I will say that I was in a very emotional state when I listened to this on audio but I still had tears flowing from my eyes late at night. I don’t regret any moment of that. I loved every second of the intensity. Now we just have a small cliffhanger to hang off of until the next book comes out. I am ready to see how this will turn out and to see where Shantel is taking this series. It really feels like it has been developing beautifully.
