I am not ok after listening to this book. First off I bought this book and then found it on audible and quickly grabbed it on there and listened. I have listened to all the other books in this series and wanted to finish up with the same trend on this book. So I feel like this was an entirely different journey than just reading it.
I am not doing good after this read. Y’all the feels were played with. Ok let me explain the trope of where the guy is with someone else when you know he should be with the FMC, that plays on my heartstrings. I’m not sure why it gets me every time but I feel the chest tighten at the thought of it all. So to see this happen for like 3/4 of the book, then to watch how she thought she lost her man…. Ugh, wrecked!!!
Obviously the happy ending is what I had to remind myself of during this entire listen. The FMC grew up with her mom shielding her from a life she didn’t want the FMC part of. Sadly, in the end the FMC was part of it anyway. Her mother passes on and her uncle takes her in because “he is the perfect family.” Dramatics sir! He played the game and the ended up keeping his niece under control for well past the time she should have let him. But can you blame her for wanting someone’s approval and love? She didn’t get that much so she did what she thought she should to earn others love. Darling, we don’t need to earn love. It should just be given.
The MMC is engaged to someone else but he is spending time with the FMC as she shows him the ropes of their families mafia territory. They both finally feel like someone is connecting with them on a different level but they do keep their distance. That is until the FMC is fully betrayed and she decides to finally do something for herself. This is where I am going to leave off and not say anything more.
This book and the entire series was a wonderful journey. I have to say though I think this was my favorite book in the entire series. I truly enjoyed how this book turned out. I know it was a retelling but I liked how it actually didn’t feel that way. I was enjoying this as if it was only a mafia book. To which is my favorite trope. I definitely recommend this series but if you don’t want to read the entire series, at least read this book!!!!
