Bourbon will not be the same after reading this book. I am obsessed with a nice finger of bourbon but now I will be thinking just wonderful dirty thoughts. How can I not when I now will be thinking of the “proper” way to drink it. Obviously from someone else’s mouth. Bourbon has now managed to be even more delicious after this read!!
Peaches… Oh Peaches, peaches, peaches. You have turned into such a woman crush, it’s not even funny. We need peaches ,I’m gonna keep using that name because that’s her nickname and it really stuck with me. But we meet peaches and she is a private investigator. The part that really stuck with me through this whole book is that she is not doing her exact dream for a job. She is actually doing some thing but also having a side job that she loves for dancing. She lost her dream job because she chose her family over her job. This is the part of the story that really stuck with me the entire time. We don’t see it but both Peaches and her sister Maggie are keeping secrets to help their family. But finally they start talking to each other and realize just what exactly has been going on. That’s when they start repairing the relationship and building a better one. Peaches and Maggie then work together to bring down the villain of their story.
Along the way peaches story becomes in twined with Lincolns. Lincoln is a widow that met peaches the night his wife decided she didn’t want to be in the marriage anymore. This also happened to be the night she passed away out of nowhere. It’s rumored that the Foxx family has a curse on all of the Women that join their family. Lincoln is working to be a single father and the best one that he can be. He’s succeeded at doing that and his girls are so grateful for everything he’s done for them. But now they wanna see him happy. Now I will say those little girls definitely went about it the wrong way but how can we blame them? I mean I like their thinking too so I can’t say anything negative about it. They soon realize their father is actually falling for Peaches.
This is where I’m going to leave off talking about this book. I cannot do it justice on my recap except for saying that you need to read this book yourself. I absolutely fell in love with this book the moment I started reading it. While I thought we were going a different direction, it ended up being the most beautiful turn of events. We watched a love story begin, a love story and tragically, a family come together and the family mourning the loss that they felt.
Author Victoria Wilder really wrote an amazing story when she was writing Bourbons & Secrets. I absolutely fell in love with how the story was written. I loved that we saw a glimpse into how the main characters met but then we moved past and watched how they fell in love. I loved that she made the family come together in a way that any mixed family would come together. She showed the concerns that a child would have when you bring somebody new into the family. The child was concerned and honestly she was a little bit hateful. Not in a bad way but in the way of not liking the new person, thinking that they’re gonna take all of their only parents attention and they will soon be forgotten. I think that is a very valid feeling that all kids will have when it comes to a situation like this. So this book really depicted emotions and situations beautifully. This book can be read as a standalone but while reading this book it’s making me interested in learning and reading about all of the other couples in this book.
If you want to book that is going to bring you multiple emotions but also smile throughout the entire time this is the book for you. It has a little bit of a dark room outside to it but massive small town vibes. Watch as you find a family that she didn’t know you were missing. Watch as you see somebody love another persons kids as their own. Watch as you see two very strong main characters fall in love.
Make this your next read!
