This story…. This story! Very much Hunger Games meets Fourth Wing vibes. Yet it still was its absolute own book. It felt like it had the vibe yet it stood out on its own, to which I can only imagine how difficult that had to be while writing. It seems that this is a category that may have so many overlaps but in reality this was paved on its own path.
Kamine has been picked to fighting in the Undertaking for her village. Each year someone is voted in and this year she was the lucky pick. Yet here is the issue…. Her powers. I won’t say anything about that as I really want you to read this Novella. But I will say, while she is away working to prepare for the Undertaking, she falls in love. Yet its that type of love that its enemies to lovers but also like hit up side the head with a 2×4. She didn’t see this one coming. I mean she went to learn how to protect her village. That is the only thing on her mind. She wants to keep her village alive.
So how will she handle falling for her enemy turned lover, all while trying to protect her village. She also doesn’t know the curse that is laid upon her now lover. Will she end up saving her village, her love and herself. Or will it all come crashing down?
Author K.C. Silver really jammed so much delicious plot into such a small book. If I were to say I had an issue with this book, it would honestly be that it wasn’t long enough. It did take me a moment to get into this book but once I was there, I couldn’t let it go. I spent one morning finishing this book because I needed to know how we were going to end it. But as I was reading, I found myself thinking I could definitely see this booking being at least 400 pages or more. This book was written so beautifully but it had the ability to be a full novel. Yet at the same time, these types of books can be easily 800 pages, so I was thankful for a change up on the reading time. I guess what I realized is that I truly enjoyed the writing skills of K.C. Silver and just wanted to read more of what came to her mind. Let me inside that brain and see where we are going next. This is definitely a Novella that I would be able to see turning into a novella series or another book. Will that actually happen, who knows.
Either way author, K.C. Silver, really did a fabulous job with writing this book. Another book that is not my typical genre to pick but I absolutely loved it and will recommend to everyone. It has become a fun hobby now to expand my reading genres in the smut world. I have been very pleasantly surprised. If you’re like me and prefer dark romance, expand those horizons and try this one out!!! It’s a novella. You will love it!!!
