You know how there are people in the world that come into your life and they are all “fluff.” That sweet side that prevails the entire time until one day BAM they hit you upside the head with their true self….. I saw that light bulb click, I know you know what I mean. This was that in book form. You spend a good 3/4 of the book in this beautiful romcom scene and your heart is absolutely melting for the MC’s. The romance is building. The happiness is so strong that you are feeling the sweet vibes. Everything is screaming sweet. But then it all changes in a blink of an eye.

The last 1/4 of the book got the wild side and did it ever just rip your heart to shreds. Look the FMC is a badass for standing up for herself through out the book but Im gonna be real, I’m vibing with momma Ana. You want to see a strong woman, look no further than that woman right there. Her world literally fell to pieces in a matter of hours. Yet that woman still stood up and spoke the truth in the time of hurt. She literally is the goals in life that every woman wants to be when they grow up. Don’t screw with Ana, she now has an army behind her.

Ok, ok, I got a little side tracked, let’s get back to the actual MC’s and chat about this book! Our FMC is named Sloane and our MMC is named Callan. There is a 20 year age gap between the MC’s. I would say though, I agree in this instance, age is just a number. The FMC is definitely wise for her age and I see where in general the age of 18 is a little scary when thinking of being in a serious relationship. Yet I truly still feel the FMC was fully understanding what she wanted in life and what she was going to do to achieve this all. She had a dream to do work like her mother, Ana, did and in that she was exploring schools to see if they fit with her life. She also took the time to hear everyones view points when it came to disagreements. For being only 18, she really did more “research” than most would in her shoes.

The MMC, Callan, was a recovering alcoholic but more importantly he was a Navy SEAL. I think too many people only looked at the past alcohol addiction and not enough with the fact that he actually fought daily against alcohol and he did do a lot to make a name for himself. Stop looking past that and look at the fact that he is strong enough to push through. Any who, he ended up becoming the bodyguard for the FMC and instantly they both fell in love. He was an upstanding man and did try to push the attraction aside and did try to turn the FMC down but he sadly did not succeed and his feelings got the best of him. He ended up giving in and their relationship took off from there.

The love and romance gives the book a fast paced vibe and made it a very easy read. I was excited to read the smut and plot mix together but at the same time, it didn’t feel like I was getting no where. The storyline had me hooked but when the last 1/4 of the book started, I would not be interrupted during that read. I needed to find out what was happening! The rollercoaster we went on to end this book was ridiculous. But thank goodness I am a big fan of rollercoasters. Strap me in Cassandra Vega, I am ready for your writing.

We get to the last 2 chapters of the book and I was on my toes on how this was going to pan out. Where we getting a HEA or were we going dark. Where was this book taking us? That I won’t spill. All I will say is the last about 5-10 chapters, buckle up and enjoy. I had massive vibes coming from this book where there may be a lead up for a second book and then we get to the epilogue. Y’all, that epilogue is just what we were hoping. Justice. That’s all I am saying. Straight up Justice.

I look forward to seeing the next book in this series. His Red Carnation will be available November 8th 2024. So I guess I gotta hold my pants for the second book. Ugh. I will be struggling!
