ARC Review!

Usually I like to go straight into talking about this book and describing the plot and such but this round I’m going to change it up and start with my thoughts on how the author did with writing this book. I’m not sure what Author Jade Wilkes did to get into this mode to write this book but ma’am, do it again. I think we can have a spin off book with Chase and Nadine. I need to be in this brain space again that made this book possible. This book felt like such a steady pace but jam packed (appropriately) with plot and smut. The setting only took over the span of three days but I think that was plenty enough for what went on during this entire book. The writing caught my attention from the beginning and the only reason I put it down last night was because of the act of sleep. That pesky little human function. I woke up and immediately started in on this book again. Finishing it this morning. That is how much this book had me in its grasps.

I think this book could definitely have been more like a 400 page book if not more. I would have loved to see where their relationship took them and who knows, maybe we will get another book about the MC’s. But either way, this book was one I felt like I needed more time with. I wanted to continue in this world a little longer. The raw emotions that emit from this book is chefs kiss. You really need to pick this one up right away!!!

Let’s get into the book shall we?

Hilly and Damon are able to connect with each other pretty fast as their past have very similar struggles. Hilly struggled with drug use but in those times of use, she was taken advantage of. Her dealer would use her body and let others do so even when she said no. But since she was taking drugs, they didn’t care. They felt they had the right to do whatever they wanted. (No. It’s still not your right) Damon sadly understood this struggle as he had a sister that also dealt with addiction. His sister sadly did not make it out of her addiction. Her dealer gave her a bad batch of drugs and her best friend just watched her overdose. Damon though is a little unhinged. He made sure to take matters into his own hands on that front.

Damon first started falling for Hilly when his dad said he was dating Hilly’s mother. Damon wanted to make sure that the person entering his fathers life wasn’t just out for his money. He wanted to make sure that the person was actually there because they loved his father. Hilly was his unexpected surprise. She was using the dating app that Damons dad created so Damon was able to spy on her conversations. That’s when he fell in love. He has been protective of her ever since then. So when she comes to their house to stay the weekend along with her mother, Damon was more than happy to make her comfortable.

Hilly and Damon end up going to a Halloween party and thats where things start to take a turn. Sadly not for the best. We watch as Hilly’s past catches up to her and she ends up fighting for her life. But little does the villain know, Hilly now has a dark shadow following her.

I won’t go into any more detail as this is truly the part where you are on your toes for the rest of the book. It is jam packed with spice and creepy vibes. This is going to be a read you will love to have around for the spooky season!!! This is a dark romance book. Be ready for that and check trigger warnings!!!
