This book has given me the thought that we need to come up with a new term. One that describes instant love but each MC doesn’t want to acknowledge such feelings so they try to become enemies to lovers. Yet it can’t be instant love or enemies to lovers because they are sassy with each other and so possessive. What is that term? See whatever that term is, that’s exactly what I am talking about with this book!
Both MC’s, Cain and Evan, met and instantly thought the other hated them. Now in Cains defense, he was told Evan was going to be stopping by the motorcycle club. With the issues they were having and needing Evans help, Cain, understandably, thought Evan was a dude. Well surprise, surprise, Evan was not a dude. Instead he found an introverted plant grower. I know, that didn’t sound right but you will catch my drift easily. With the threat of possible war on the horizon if Cain doesn’t fix their issues, the motorcycle club turns to Evan for help.
Evan was foster siblings with Scotch, also known as Zeke. Scotch is the person that knew Evan could help the club out of their current predicament. But what they thought would be a quick and easy purchase off of Evan and her supply, turned into multiple events that put Evans safety in question. Evan is not a defenseless woman, no she has her trusty dog Hades that was trained to defend her and the house. But yet somehow the bad guy in this book (we don’t use the term villain except for the delicious ones we are rooting for. Haha) still managed to sneak around her house one day and break into it, while leaving a message a different day. Evans safety quickly was in jeopardy. She was warned to stay away from the Dirty Devils (The motorcycle club name) or she will regret her decisions.
Due to Evan being the newest person to “join” the motorcycle club, when the club started to have issues, including Evans, they truly turned their eyes on Evan. We have to stop here though and say this point of view truly made sense. Not that we support their turning backs on Evan but I mean I would even question the same thing if I was them. How does one put full trust into someone they barely know and the timing was just off. So Hash and the guys get a free pass on this. Also Hash makes it up to her by bringing the idea of fixing her house where the bad guy vandalized it. Good boy Hash. Cain was able to figure out easily that Evan was not the person behind everything but she too was one that was dealing with repercussions of their alliance.
After everyone cooled off and were able to think straight, they all realized that they needed to make a plan. One that maybe Cain wasn’t a huge fan of but buddy, we need to let the girl do what she thinks is best. She has a solid idea!!! Also let’s add she too needed to work on her trust factor and finally felt like she could tell Cain everything. So she spoke about someone that was giving her questionable responses when she talked with them.
I’m attempting to not give away the ending because that is where a lot of the drama unravels but I will say, trust your gut on who you think will end up being the bad guy. I sat back like “its this person!!!!” but also thought, watch, I’m going to be blindsided. To which we kinda were. I didn’t see the stage left entrance. I was a tad too into everything else to see that one coming. Shame on me.
Through it all, Evan and Cain’s relationship slowly blossomed with a few one step forward and two steps back style but we can say they finally get over it and truly feel the love between each other. But let me talk about the smut for a moment. Ummmm excuse me Daddy Cain, I needed a fan. Thank you! Now I do love a biker so he was right up my alley and did not disappoint in any way. The scenes were delicious and definitely had me smirking while reading!
The author, D. Vessa, really did a nice job with this book and truly made a book that hooked me from the first page. Immediately I was caught into the drama and ready to see what would unfold in the entire book! This book had such a perfect mix of smut and plot. Yet when we were in the plot times, it felt like a nicely flowing story line. I didn’t feel like it repeated the same details over and over again. It felt like all of the details had a reason to be there and truly helped you with establishing key information for the storyline. Then she sprinkled in the smut at the most amazing times and set it up for a delicious break in the drama of the storyline. Almost like in real life how we just need a break and take a breather, well she did that with the smut. It was beautifully incorporated and written.
Cain has been a pleasure to read and it truly has set up the entire series to be nothing short of amazing. I feel like we will see some wonderful books for the Dirty Devils Motorcycle Club. I will say, I am so hoping to have a book about Cyrus. Ok let me be real I also need one of Scotch, Ink and Hash. All the guys need a book and we need to see how they all get their “Old Ladies.” More to come with this series but I think we were given an amazing dip into it with Cain.
